#6: Take a Drive: Get
out and see the "real" Phuket away from the tourist areas
Coconut, pineapple and rubber plantations,
rural villages, and stunning sea and bay views are all on offer. You
will be amazed at what you'll find, a Phuket that even many local
residents don't know about. Soi Bangla is interesting, but it isn't
really Phuket. As long as you are coming to the island, you might as
well see what is here. Check out
Phuket's Best
Island Drives. Self drive or hire a car and driver for the day.
A couple well-reviewed drivers with cars are here:
Phuket People. Read
Phuket Car Rent
for information about driving on Phuket and how the Car Hire situation
works here. This two-meter statue of Ganessha is one of the surprises you
will find, but you'll have to go hunting for it yourself.
#7:
Phuket FantaSea:
A tourist favorite on the island and often well-reviewed on travel forums,
this is a show everyone goes to see at least once. Know that you can eat
many fine Thai meals for the price of the buffet, though people speak
highly of it too.
#8:
Cruise Soi Bangla in Patong
If you are here, you
have to see it to believe it. Even if only once, get down to party
central on Soi Bangla in Patong and just wander amongst the crowd. This is
adults only fare after dark, but even if the bar and party scene is not
your cup of tea, it's still worth checking it out. Located right in the
center of Patong, you can't really miss it. The street is open only
to pedestrian traffic after about 6pm and a bit later Phuket's resident
"lady boys" come out in all their flamboyance - as do the regular ladies
and the tourist hoards looking for a good time.
#9:
Simon Cabaret
If you just can't get enough of the flamboyance and lady boys of Soi
Bangla, head on over to Simon Cabaret. Another attraction very
popular with the tourist crowed is this transvestite cabaret show with
lots of lip-syncing and flouncing about. Worth doing at least once
if you have never been to such a show.
#10:
Restaurant Crawl
Do you love searching out great places to
eat? If so, Phuket is a true paradise. Literally hundreds of
excellent restaurants of every national cuisine and every price range are
available on Phuket. Check out the
Favorite Restaurants
section, but know that even a list of 100 wouldn't begin to cover all your
options. And, discovering a new place yourself is half the fun. Thai
food, Italian, Japanese, you name it, we have it here.
One more!
#11: Don't forget the Beach
The beach is why most
people come to Phuket. But don't let yourself think that Patong,
Karon or Kata are the only beaches on the island. There are many
beaches that are much less crowded and even more beautiful. Check out the
Best Beaches
section on this website site for ideas on different beaches to sample -
some great beaches are just off the island and, as yet, still undiscovered.
